Dr. Designer Brings Compassion
December 18th, 2009

When I first thought of compassion and what it has to do with the web design industry, I said to myself, “What the hell does it have in common!” After rattling my brain for about an hour I thought that it very much related.
Then I googled the definition: Compassion is a profound human emotion prompted by the pain of others—and how I see it people are in pain, pain from their or their company’s lack of presence online. I can feel compassionate for those that are behind the technology curve, and I am just the man to solve their problem.
Dr. Designer here, reporting for duty.
All pun aside, I did agree with Christina and her post on compassion. She writes, “As designers and developers we will have professional relationships with many different clients and co-workers.” Which is true, we as professionals will encounter a lot more diverse clientele than any other career. We have to step into our client’s shoes and dig deep into their emotions, be compassionate towards their needs, and find a way to translate that into a website.
If you are happy then go spread the wealth, hopefully it will be contagious. The more you care, the stronger the web professional you will grow to be. Now I challenge you to go out there and solve your own hurting clients. And I leave you with this…
“If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” —The Dalai Lama
